Theme:  Louisiana Celebrates Carnival

in partnership with:

Many countries have Carnival traditions, but Louisiana’s unique festivities are renowned worldwide for their history, colorfulness, satire, and playfulness. Mardi Gras in Louisiana is a statewide celebration for all ages. It is a chance to leave the everyday world behind through street parades, costumes, and balls. This year, in partnership with the Krewe of Orpheus, we invite Louisiana high school juniors and seniors to explore the richness of Louisiana’s Carnival traditions by submitting an original 2-dimensional work of art.

The artistic approach can be historical, contemporary, or imaginary in its conception, with interpretations ranging from a traditional scene of a parade to an abstract exploration of the Carnival tradition.
